Ganying (also known as Gantu, Chinese: 甘菟 “Tiger”) was a spirit tiger in the Eastern Han Dynasty. His human identity was an envoy sent by the Han Dynasty to the Roman Empire (CE 97). After a long and arduous journey, he reached Antioch of Syria before returning to China, extending the Silk Road to the Eastern Mediterranean. He is remembered as a legendary explorer.

Upon his return, Ganying resigned from his official position and lived in seclusion, focusing on documenting his travel experiences. Later spirit animals recognized him as the first author of the Spirit Animal Chronicles.
