Zhanshu (Chinese: 詹鼠 “Rat”) was a spirit rat that lived during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Sui Dynasty. His human identity was a chef, who once served as the imperial chef of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty (CE 583). He was credited for establishing the seasoning theories of Chinese culinary, and was revered by humans as “Zhanwang (Chinese: 詹王),” the king of chefs.

Zhanshu experimented with spells to enhance cooking techniques, some of which were documented in the “Essential Spells for Spirit Animals Expanded.” He also established a tradition where spirit animal chefs provide free food to other spirit animals in need.
