This post showcases the key concept arts of Alice Rosetta, the protagonist of my original project Electric Hearts. These concept arts were created in a long time span between 2020 – 2023. Some details may differ from the latest settings, but they are very close to the final version.
In Electric Hearts, Alice is human’s first robot with true artificial intelligence. She was originally developed to carry out space missions instead of human astronauts. As a robot, Alice does not need a life support system or a space suit. And therefore she can be much more nimble and safer working in space.
Alice and her supporting projects, namely Electric Hearts (true artificial intelligence) and Star Children (robotic bodies for space activities) are all operated by the International Space Cooperation (ISC).
The ISC is a subsidiary of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), it coordinates the technology, funding, and talents from different countries and regions, carries out pioneer researches about true artificial intelligence, humanoid robots, and advanced space development. Ideally, the outcome of the ISC should be equally distributed to all humanity.
Just like any UN agencies, the ISC has talented and passionate people, a comically small budget, and it enjoys many on-the-paper privileges that, in reality, often get disregarded by everybody. The ISC is often caught in the crossfire of politics and finds itself in awkward situations.
Because of Alice’s UNDP background, her costume adopts the United Nation’s color scheme: light blue and white.
Since Alice is true artificial intelligence, her development team decided to educate and socialize her like a human child. Alice has another robotic body on earth to live among humans and go to school.
The first 5 pictures in this post were created around 2020 when I was still working on human anatomy. My sense of proportion was generally off at the time. Alice’s body proportion looks too small for her age in those pictures — she is supposed to be a 5th grader. The last picture was created around 2022, and received further adjustments in 2023. I think the last one reflects what I want Alice to look like.
Electric Hearts shares its universe with my other original project, Spirit Animals in Disguise. Alice, Leiting, Quiye and Mingzhu are classmates.
