Azura Ruisselante the Broadcaster Unicorn is the mascot I designed for free and open source web radio station suite. Her name is french, it means “blue stream”.

AzuraCast’s history goes back to Ponyville Live, a My Little Pony: Friendship community broadcasting project. To emphasized her MLP origin, I designed her as a unicorn with a pair of headphones on her head, a microphone hanging on her horn, and two speakers on her back. Her black fur was chosen because it looks cool, and I was trying to draw a full black character properly. Her river-like blue long hair came from her namesake (Ruisselante = Streaming = AzuraCast’s purpose).
There was also a anthropomorphic version of her, but I later found the design not very tasteful, it didn’t match Azura’s calm and collected character, either. So it was removed.
Azura’s a color scheme and her personality makes her one of my favorite character. I was not quite satisfied with the 2018 version. I might draw her again in the future.
