Bailian (Human)

Bailian (fullname: Guan Bailian, Chinese: 关白莲 “White Lotus”) is a volunteer doctor working for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Red Cross). She guides Alice during her humanitarian aid missions in the Sunset Era. People usually call her Doctor Guan.

Personality

Bailian is a calm and optimistic woman with strong willpower. Her smile and positivity provide reassurance to others. While working in an idealistic cause, she understands the meaning and limitations of her work, allowing her to adapt her strategies flexibly in complex situations to help as many people as possible.

Bailian’s appearance and demeanor often remind people of Guanyin (Chinese: 南海观音, Buddhism: Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the Mercy Listener). She sometimes speaks as if she were Guanyin herself but dismisses it as “just a joke.”

Bailian is a renowned pediatrician with over a decade of experience in humanitarian aid. She excels at diagnosing illnesses, performing complex surgeries, and holds a veterinary license.

Having worked in unstable areas for years, she has developed a keen sense of danger that has guided her team to safety on numerous occasions.

Life

Bailian is currently a volunteer for the Red Cross. She guides Alice in humanitarian aid activities in disaster-stricken, war-torn, and underdeveloped areas during Alice’s winter and summer vacations as part of a collaboration with the United Nations, at the request of a close friend.

Every year when lotus flowers bloom, Bailian returns to Dongguan for rest and recuperation. During her stay, she often helps at the local community clinic or serves as an expert at major hospitals, discussing treatment plans for challenging cases.

Relationships

Bailian has worked with international organizations like Médecins Sans Frontières, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the World Health Organization, and has a wide network of contacts.

Alice holds Bailian in high regard and behaves especially well around her.

Previously a doctor at People’s Hospital of Dongguan, Bailian treated many of Alice’s classmates, including Leiting and Qiuye. She is also familiar with Libbie, Zoey, Tonyn, and others.
