Amber the Robot Rabbit renewed design after 12 years. This is a “rehab” of me drawing robotic stuff.
Amber is a character from my original sci-fi project “Electric Hearts”. She is one of the first original characters I ever designed. In older versions she was a SWAT police officer, but this idea unfortunately clashed with Judy Hopps from Zootopia (although Amber came out 10 years earlier), and my idea of the project also shifted to something else. I will have to come up with some new story for her.
This picture is based on an old picture 12 years ago:
I was at a bad place when I drew the old version — both skill-wise and mental-wise. I was only able to make a sketch of my idea and stopped there. I even doubt there was a clear intent when I drew the 2012 version. Perhaps I feared continuing to work on it might lead to a rigid, unpleasant result, like most of the stuff I did in my low period between 2012 – 2022.
But still, the old version was one of the better ones from that period, and that’s why I decided to redraw it. It only took me a day, and it was an enjoyable process. I think the new version has successfully captured what I hoped to achieve in the old version.
