This is the splash art I created for Krita 4.0, it was used up to version 4.1. At the time, the Krita project was facing a very difficult time — Netherlands’ tax law problem, the maintainer’s health issue, etc.
In Chinese culture, wintersweet trees are associated with unyielding spirit in adverse situations because they blossom during the coldest of winter. This splash carried the wish of Krita overcoming its difficulties.
Krita is a free and open source digital painting application. Kiki the Cyber Squirrel is the mascot I designed for Krita. I also maintain Krita’s simplified Chinese translations — across the app, documentation, websites, and more.
