Alice Rosetta is a robot girl born in the Sunset era, designed for space missions instead of human astronauts. She goes to school with human children and engages in international cooperation projects. Curious, playful, and determined, she excels at creating and repairing electronic and mechanical equipment.
Origin
First true AI robot and astronaut: Alice is the first robot with true artificial intelligence. She was developed in the Sunset Era by the International Space Cooperation (ISC), a United Nations subsidiary. Her mission is to carry out space missions intead of human astronauts. Her chief engineer is Zoey, and her appearance designer is Tonyn.
A primary school student in Dongguan: Alice goes to school with human children in Dongguan, China.
A United Nations volunteer: During holidays, Alice volunteers for humanitarian aid in UN-supported regions.
A new journey in the future: Alice’s body was found and revived in the Evernight Era, hundreds of years later, where she begins a new journey to shape the world’s destiny.
Name
Alice’s name was selected in a UN internal contest, reflecting everyone’s hopes for her.
Chinese name: Alice’s Chinese name is 爱理诗 (Ai Lishi) — 爱 (Ai) represents Universal Love/Artificial Intelligence, 理 (Li) signifies Justice/Science/Reason, and 诗 (Shi) embodies Poetry/Aesthetics.
English name: Alice’s English name is Alice Rosetta. Her first name, Alice, is an omage to the innocent and courageous protagonist of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Her surname, Rosetta, came from the Rosetta Stone, an ancient artifact inscribed with three languages that helped decipher Ancient Egyptian glyphs.
Personality
Curious and brave: Alice has the mental age of a 10-year-old child. She is curious and eager to put her ideas into action, but can be impatient and impulsive, often overlooking the details.
Idealistic and strong sense of mission: Alice is an idealist who dreams for a better world and challenges the injustices she encounters. She understands her mission and is eager to contribute to space development and international cooperation. She often adopts a “good young science advocate” persona to express her stance.
Arrogant and stubborn: Alice is proud to be the first true artificial intelligence robot and astronaut. The media attention has made her somewhat arrogant, leading to occasional displays of stubbornness and willfulness. When reprimanded by adults, she often talks back or behaves in a two-faced manner.
Frugal and stingy: Due to the UN’s tight budget and her volunteer experiences in underdeveloped and war-torn areas, Alice developed a frugal lifestyle. She goes to great lengths to avoid wasting electricity and supplies, self-produces components to save money, and is very particular about her classmates breaking her stuff.
Inner theater: Alice’s peripheral system features two pseudo-AI chatbots, an “angel” and a “devil,” that she sometimes consults for advice. Not only can both chatbots receive Alice’s inquiries simlutaneously, but they can also read each other’s responses and argue with each other, constantly vying for influence over her decisions.
Specialties
Handy: Alice is skilled at tinkering with mechanical and electronic devices. She has excellent hands-on ability, allowing her to maintain, repair, create, and modify them. Her child-sized hands help her handle small and hard-to-reach parts that adults may struggle with.
Highly motivated and quick learner: Alice is a motivated and quick learner, leveraging her advantage as a robot to read many books about human culture. Through practice, she has developed a unique intuition, often learning new skills without prior instruction.
Clever and strategic thinking: Alice’s long-term observation of geopolitical games on the UN stage gives her a good sense of the big picture and strategic thinking, though she mainly applies this talent to mischief at the moment.
Socialble and skilled at communication: Alice is outgoing and sociable, excelling at communication. She has inherited drawing skills from her chief engineer Zoey and appearance design engineer Tonyn, allowing her to explain complex concepts through her art.
One heart across multiple bodies: Alice can run on any device with sufficient computing power and operate multiple independent instances simultaneously. Memory data between instances can be synchronized in real-time or on demand. When multiple Alices communicate, it becomes lively, as they are all very talkative. The Alice instances do not distinguish themselves; they share the same goals and identity, exhibiting a fuzzy integrity.
Fragile and prine to malfunctions: The technology behind Alice’s robotic body is still in its infancy. Her bodies often malfunction, particularly the cheaper Lynx 1 model she uses on the ground. This fragile and unreliable body situation has become a lifelong curse on her.
Body
Alice has a series of dedicated humanoid robotic bodies and expansion kits named after constellations. She also occasionally uses generic devices, like a robotic sweeper, as her body.
Lynx 2 body unit (Lynx 2): The Lynx (Cat) 2 Body Unit is Alice’s humanoid robotic body designed for space activities. As a robot, Alice doesn’t require a pressurized vehicle or spacesuit to survive in space. This makes her body small, lightweight, and agile, capable of navigating using integrated thrusters. Additionally, her dexterous limbs and fingers enable precision tasks. The hair parts function as solar panels, while the lights in her cat ears illuminate her surroundings.
Cygnus general space activity kit (Lynx 2 + CS): The Cygnus (Swan) Kit expands Alice’s Lynx 2 Body by adding: 2 main thrusters, 2 vernier thrusters, multiple toolboxes, 2 electromagnetic soles with hooks, retractive all-in-one data/power/anchor cable, and 2 reactive sleeve buffer shields.
The Lynx + Cygnus combination is Alice’s preferred configuration for general space activity due to its versatility and agility. However, it lacks a powerful generator and relies on external power via cable for long missions. Additionally, the kit lacks a large radiator, limiting its operation time under direct sunlight.
Ursa Minor Deep Space Activity Kit (Lynx 2 + UM): The Ursa Minor (Little Bear) Kit is a full-body power armor designed for Alice’s Lynx 2 Body. It enhances her strength and offers protection, heat control, space navigation, and an internal power source. However, the kit is bulky and clumsy, not suiting Alice’s style. With few deep space operations available, it has become her least favorite gear. She typically wears it during hibernation as her “space pajama” for improved heat control and protection.
Lepus Moon Surface Activity Kit (Lynx 2 + LP): The Lepus (Rabbit) Kit is a partial alternative to Alice’s Lynx 2 Body, replacing nearly everything except the head module. It features legs designed for the moon’s surface that operate through deformation rather than joints, offering enhanced protection against moon dust and requiring minimal maintenance.
Instead of cat ears, Lepus has foldable solar panels shaped like rabbit ears. The cube tail container houses an atomic battery for auxiliary power and an insulation cloak to withstand lunar nights. The Lepus kit lacks space navigation capabilities and includes only disposable water jets for emergencies.
Sugar Cube Micro Satellites (CubeSat): The Sugar Cube Micro Satellites are assistive machines for Alice. These palm-sized cubes come in various designs and can harness solar power, navigate autonomously, collaborate to capture and move objects, relay communications, and provide early warnings of space debris. Each cube runs an independent instance of Alice. A fleet of these satellites creates a lively scene as they chatter excitedly.
Lynx 1 Body Unit (Lynx 1): The Lynx 1 Body Unit is Alice’s humanoid robotic body on Earth and serves as a test bed for Lynx 2’s new modules. It offers improved water, dust, and corrosion resistance, utilizing air cooling instead of passive thermal radiation cooling.
Compared to Lynx 2, the Lynx 1 is built more cheaply with lower-spec parts and less precise assembly due to ongoing modifications. The resulted frequent breakdowns have led Alice to become adept at self-repair, sometimes even creating her own replacement parts.
Robotic Sweeper “Xiao Ai Pro MAX”: When the Lynx 1 body malfunctions, Alice must temporarily use a modified robotic sweeper as her body.
The sweeper has limited computing power, so Alice can only communicate using dot emoticons and robotic voices. Its camera can only see close range, requiring it to be placed on the teacher’s lectern to view the whiteboard. The sweeper moves slowly and cannot navigate stairs. Each time Alice uses the sweeper as her body, she becomes agitated and loses her usual composure.
The sweeper’s manufacturer uses “Xiao Ai” as a voice command trigger, a fitting nickname for Alice. Some mischievous students exploit this to activate Alice’s automatic response and mock her with the undeserved “Pro MAX” suffix of the sweeper.
Life
Space missions: In space, Alice typically resides at the Laputa Space Station, awaiting missions.
School life: Alice is a 5th-grade student in Class 3 at Guancheng Zhizheng Primary School. Her classmates are informally her “petit ground crew.” Class 3 is an “Experimental Class on Ecology Education,” and their head teacher, Libbie, takes them to visit agricultural and natural sites. Alice serves as an assistant manager of the class’s experimental farm, where she cares for the animals.
Family life: Alice’s project headquarters is in the Songshan Lake Hi-Tech Industry Zone, but she doesn’t live there. Her main engineer, Zoey, who created her, is too busy to care for her and entrusts Alice to his good friend Tonyn. Nevertheless, he tries to spend time with Alice whenever possible. He takes her to visit factories in her supply chain to learn how parts are made and brings new equipment (toys) for her to test (play) with.
Alice lives in Tonyn‘s place, located in the historic old town of Guancheng near her school. Tonyn, Alice’s guardian, is a strict parent who closely monitors her mental development. He often takes her to museums and teaches her drawing to cultivate her temperament. At home, Alice has a pet rabbit named “Cloud White.”
United Nations missions: Alice sometimes travels the world for UN missions. She typically stays with local UN staff and is known as “the community daughter.”
In summer and winter holidays, Alice participates in humanitarian aid operations under the coordination of the United Nations, following Doctor Guan from the Red Cross and Red Crescent as her mentor.
To create a better environment for Alice’s upbringing, the International Space Cooperation decides to limit reports about her and declines all interview requests. When Alice visits UN facilities, they occasionally arrange for her to attend meetings as a young observer to learn about international cooperation.
Relationships
Feiya, Alice’s classmate: Feiya and Alice are task partners and good friends, and their relationship is close and harmonious. Feiya writes drivers for Alice to integrate all kinds of devices into her body for testing (messing around), while also teaching her basic programming.
Leiting, Alice’s classmate: Alice sees Leiting as a nuisance – she likes to mess with things she isn’t supposed to touch, and is particularly good at breaking them – including Alice’s robotic body and equipment. One of her pranks caused Alice’s battery to catch fire, damaging her body. As a result, Alice had to use a robotic sweeper as a temporary body for weeks. Since then, whenever she uses the sweeper, she will intentionally ask Leiting to carry her upstairs or onto her desk. Feeling guilty, Leiting will just comply.
On the other hand, Leiting also finds Alice troublesome – Alice is too fragile, her self-promotion habit and stinginess also irritates Leiting, which leads her to tease Alice with more pranks.
Qiuye, Alice’s classmate: Alice and Qiuye both love reading and often share their thoughts on the books they’ve read. As a robot, Alice reads incredibly fast but tends to be impatient and shallow in her understanding. She gains valuable insights from Qiuye’s perspective on the same book. Meanwhile, Qiuye benefits from Alice’s extensive reading volume to discover good books. This way, they have become excellent reading partners.
Mingzhu, Alice’s classmate: Alice and Mingzhu have contrasting personalities. Alice has a strong sense of mission, while Mingzhu is absolutely carefree. Mingzhu enjoys food, while Alice cannot eat. They spend much time together as Mingzhu practices martial arts and cooking with Tonyn every week. Initially, Alice found Mingzhu silly, but she grew to appreciate her relaxed demeanor. When Qiuye is absent, Alice looks after Mingzhu instead. Mingzhu, on the other hand, teaches Alice some basic martial arts moves and techniques.
Libbie, Alice’s head teacher: Libbie pays special attention to Alice, as a thinking robot is new to everyone. She organizes the class to help Alice fit in and feels relieved when she does well despite occasional mishaps. Alice behaves well around Libbie, but Libbie sees through her mischievous nature.
Zoey, Alice’s main engineer: Zoey treats Alice like his daughter. Due to his busy work schedule and frequent business trips, he entrusts her care to Tonyn. However, when in Dongguan, he occasionally brings her new gadgets for testing (toys to play with) or takes her to factories to learn about how things (especially herself) are made. If Alice behaves well, he beams with pride and boasts, “My daughter did this and that.” As a parent who spoils his child, Zoey prioritizes Alice’s creativity but neglects her manners. Consequently, Alice often pushes boundaries with her mischievous behavior.
Tonyn, Alice’s appearance designer and guardian: Tonyn raises Alice as his own daughter, spending much time reading books on parenting and psychology. He is a strict parent who does not tolerate Alice’s naughty behaviors. Alice would behave when he is around.
During holidays, Tonyn takes Alice to museums and cultural landmarks. He sometimes brings her to his friend’s tailor shop, where she can design and create her own clothing.
Cloud, Alice’s pet rabbit: Cloud enjoys being with Alice, behaving well around her.
Bailian, Alice’s mentor in humanitarian aid operations: Alice holds Bailian in high regard and behaves especially well around her.
Role in Aizu Worship
Revered as Aizu: Alice was regarded as the ancestor of all robots in Aizu worship among the Evernight Era robots. They call this imaginary version of her “Aizu” and treat her as their a savior.
