Dongguan (东莞: East Salt Grass Field) is a city located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province, China. It has a robust high-tech manufacturing sector along with several state-operated fundamental science research projects. Alice’s project team operates in the Songshan Lake High-Tech Development Zone, while she resides and studies in the historic town of Guancheng.
The Historic Town of Guancheng
The historic town of Guancheng (莞城: Old Downtown of Dongguan) is divided into two parts, each built during the Song Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. The iconic Ying’en City Gate (迎恩门: The Imperial Edict Gate) is located in the west of the town. Alice lives in the nearby Song Bai (松柏: Pine and Cypress) Community in Tonyn’s house, while her school, Zhizheng Primary School, is located in the Xuan Jiao (宣教: Religion and Education) Community in the east of the town.
Songshan Lake High-Tech Development Zone
The Songshan Lake Zone is situated in the heart of Dongguan City. It features a university town, a high-tech industrial district, and a huge natural park. Alice’s project team is also based here.
