Leiyu (full name: Ao Leiyu, Chinese: 傲雷雨 “Thunderstorm”) is human girl and a high school student at Dongzheng Middle School. She is the elder sister of Leiting the Spirit Loong and the only human aware of her spirit animal secret. Although cold on the outside, Leiyu has a warm heart; she loves animals and excels in dressmaking.
Personality
Faking a cool facade: As a high school student, Leiyu feels anxious about the National College Entrance Examination. To cope, she adopts a cynical, rebellious persona and pretends to be “cool.” She finds comfort in handicrafts like sewing.
Suppressed playfulness: Despite her cool facade, she was more mischievous than Leiting as a child and occasionally reveals her true self.
Pretending to be indifferent but caring for her sister: Although she seems indifferent towards Leiting, she actually cares deeply for her.
Loves animals: Leiyu loves animals, but due to her mom‘s objections, she can’t have pets at home. After Leiting transforms into a spirit loong, Leiyu, who always found her sister adorable, treats her as a pet substitute.
Specialties
Adept dressmaker: Leiyu is skilled in sewing and crafting trinkets. She creates costumes, including clothes, shoes, and hats for herself and Leiting as a hobby. As a member of the school’s anime club, she also makes costumes for their cosplayers.
Life
Sharing a room with her sister: Leiyu and Leiting share a room, and she is the only one who knows her little sister’s spirit animal secret. She often teases Leiting about it, but also does her best to care and cover for her.
Getting along with spirit animals: Ever since Leiting became a spirit animal, Leiyu often found herself involved in spirit animal businesses and grew familiar with them. She soon discovered that her longtime classmate and good friend Yanhua is also a spirit animal.
Learning dressmaking: Leiyu learns dressmaking and helps in Luoqi the Spirit Moth‘s workshop on weekends, making spirit costumes for Leiting and other spirit animals.
Pressured by the National College Entrance Exam: As a senior 2 student, Leiyu feels increasingly pressured with the National College Entrance Examination approaching.
Most miserable generation in Dongzheng Middle School’s history: Due to the demolition of Dongzheng Middle School‘s old classroom building for reconstruction, the students have been relocated to temporary board houses on the soccer field, making them the most “miserable” generation in the school’s history.
Member of the school anime club: Leiyu is a member of the school’s anime club, responsible for making costumes for their cosplayers. During vacations, she attends anime conventions in neighboring cities and encourages Leiting and other spirit animals to cosplay as anthro characters from animes.
Relationships
Leiting, Leiyu’s younger sister: Leiyu is the only human aware of Leiting’s spirit animal secret. Although she appears indifferent, Leiyu genuinely cares for her sister and has always provided her with cover. However, she also exploits this secret to make Leiting run errands or act as a pillow in her animal form. Meanwhile, Leiting often plays pranks on Leiyu using her spells.
Leiyu’s parents: At home, Dad and Leiting often forms a “united front”, while Mom teams up with Leiyu. Dad supports Leiyu’s hobbies by buying her tools and materials. Mom, on the other hand, views the hobby as a waste of time and space but tolerates it since it’s “better than other nonsense.” However, she can’t stand Leiyu’s “cool” facade and always scolds her to “put away the dead face.”
Yanhua, Leiyu’s good friend and classmate: Leiyu and Yanhua the Spirit Wolf have been good friends since primary school. Leiyu was unaware of Yanhua’s spirit animal identity until Leiting became a spirit dragon and teamed up with Yanhua’s sister, Qiuye. After that revelation, Yanhua began visiting Leiting more often, transforming into her animal form to beg for pets or to be walked like a dog.
Luoqi, Leiyu’s dressmaking teacher: Leiyu is learning dressmaking from Luoqi the Spirit Moth. Leiyu’s mom is a frequent customer of Luoqi, and Leiyu started her dressmaking lessons as a child. She was unaware of Luoqi’s spirit animal identity until discovering it while helping with a spirit costume for Leiting. Luoqi sees Leiyu as a talented apprentice and teaches her without reservation.
