Zhizheng Primary School is Leiting’s school, located in the historic town of Guancheng in Dongguan City. She is a member of Class 3, Grade 5 in the school.
Facilities
The School underwent a complete rebuild in recent years, featuring all necessary facilities, an experimental farm, and an orchard. Located in the historic town of Guancheng, the campus is divided into three parts connected by skybridges.
Two rows of large banyan trees stand beside the main gate, believed to date back to the Northern Song Dynasty when the renowned writer Su Shi (苏轼) visited the place; however, this claim’s authenticity is uncertain.
The glass wall of the staircase and the rooftop of the teaching building provide a panoramic view of the town’s rooftops. Leiting and her friends often gather here to discuss “spirit animal businesses”.
Heritage
Zhizheng Primary School is located on the historic site of Zifu Buddhist Temple. During the Sino-Japanese War, the monks dispersed, and the temple was rebuilt near Tongsha Reservoir. The main hall’s glazed roof tiles were used to renovate Ying’en City Gate.
There is a Marble Diamond Sutra Pagoda on campus, housing two Buddha relics donated by the renowned writer Su Shi (苏轼) during his exile in Guangdong. He also wrote several articles to commemorate the donation.
The school’s name originates from a large bronze bell donated by Persian merchants to the temple during the Yuan Dynasty’s Zhizheng (至正: Absollute Justice) period. The original bell is now in Dongguan Museum, while a replica was recently cast for signaling class times on campus. Unfortunately, the new bell was damaged by a water rocket launched by the school’s remote control model team, resulting in a huge crack.
