Zoey the Cyber Mink was a mascot I designed for Singularity Viewer, a free and open source Second Life viewer. The first version of Zoey was created in 2019, and received a dozen times of revisions until the final version in 2022.

Lore

Zoey was a white mink and a genius young scientist. In a lab accident, he was transformed into a super villain with the power to control portals across time and space, his fur also turned black in the process. At day, he transforms to his old appearance and go to work as if nothing happened. But at night, he assumes his new identity and carry out crimes for fun against big figures and organizations. This setting reflects how people playing Second Life can behave differently than their real world self.

Design

Zoey is my personal favorite among all my original characters. He was a successful attempt to create a full black fur character with primarily black costume, a task which I kept challenging for a very long time. After the first version was done in 2019, I kept fine-tuning his design with my newly acquired art skills, all the way into 2022 when I deemed the design to be final.

Multiple Identities

After Zoey’s design was completed, the Singularity Viewer project didn’t post it on their website for a long time — I didn’t notice the link while writing this article. Assuming the project had been abandoned, I repurposed Zoey as a supporting character in Spirit Animals in Disguise and Electric Hearts. However, the Singularity Viewer maintainer Liru contacted me in May 2026 and clarified the misunderstanding, prompting me to update the article accordingly.

In any case, Zoey now truly has multiple identities!
