Zoey the Cyber Mink was a mascot I designed for Singularity Viewer, a free and open source Second Life viewer. The first version of Zoey was created in 2019, and received a dozen times of revisions until the final version in 2022.

Lore

Zoey was a white mink and a genius young scientist. In a lab accident, he was transformed into a super villain with the power to control portals across time and space, his fur also turned black in the process. At day, he transforms to his old appearance and go to work as if nothing happened. But at night, he assumes his new identity and carry out crimes for fun against big figures and organizations. This setting reflects how people playing Second Life can behave differently than their real world self.

Design

Zoey is my personal favorite among all my original characters. He was a successful attempt to create a full black fur character with primarily black costume, a task which I kept challenging for a very long time. After the first version was done in 2019, I kept fine-tuning his design with my newly acquired art skills, all the way into 2022 when I deemed the design to be final.

Multiple Identities

After Zoey’s design was completed, the Singularity Viewer project didn’t post it on their website for a long time — I didn’t notice the link while writing this article. Assuming the project had been abandoned, I repurposed Zoey as a supporting character in Spirit Animals in Disguise and Electric Hearts. However, the Singularity Viewer maintainer Liru contacted me in May 2026 and clarified the misunderstanding, prompting me to update the article accordingly.

In any case, Zoey now truly has multiple identities!

  1. Our old site had the link to our mascot page buried in the sidebar, which wasn’t ideal and that had been up for a while when this page was written back in 2022; at the time we were working on a port of our site from Classic Google Pages (which was going away) to Docusaurus.

Our new Docusaurus site has been up since 2023, it presents a nice centered link to the page featuring Zoey, which has been reformatted to look even better than it did back on Google Pages.

While development has been slow in the last few years, we haven’t abandoned the project, recent events (deaths, financial stress, etc) have kept us busy with other parts of our lives but the team is still working despite the world pushing us down.

Our apologies to Tyson for the miscommunications of the past.

    1. Hi Liru,
I don’t think the issue stemmed from miscommunication — but from a lack of direct communication altogether. While writing this article (2024 – 2025), I tried to research the project but couldn’t find any verifiable, up-to-date sources. The few Zoey – related stuff I found online appear to be from a small group of his fans — I was unsure if they’re affiliated with the official project.

As long as the project still uses Zoey, I’m fine with it. Could you share links to the current project and the official mascot page?

I might’ve held a grudge in the past — but I’ve long outgrown the self-importance of being a mascot artist. Besides, as you said, the world is sliding downhill; even people in developed countries are struggling to survive. People’s hobbies simply aren’t top priority right now. I sincerely wish you and everyone on the project strength to endure these hard times.

Once you share the new links, I’ll update Zoey’s pages and delete old social media posts stating he’s no longer in use — as soon as this weekend.

That said, I’ll continue using my versions of Zoey in my two original projects. He’s become so deeply embedded in their lore that he’s inseparable. XD
