Characters based on my FOSS mascots

I have designed mascots for many free and open-source software projects. I have redesigned some them into original characters in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise, either because they significantly influenced my personal development, feature designs I am proud of, belong to now inactive projects, or never used for some reason.

Libbie the Cyber Oryx

Libbie the Cyber Oryx was originally a mascot candidate I designed for the mascot contest of the free and open-source office suite LibreOffice. However, due to the misconduct of LibreOffice, the competition was cancelled. I reimagined Libbie into the head teacher of the main characters in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.

Gracie the Pirate Gazelle

Gracie the Pirate Gazelle was originally the mascot I designed for a fork of the free and open-source Bittorrent tracker Gazelle. The fork has been abandoned. I reimagined Gracie as a primary school teacher in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.

Sophia the GameDev Girl

Sophia is one of the mascots I designed for GDQuest, a tutorial project for the free and open-source game engine Godot. Coincidentally, GDQuest named her Sophia, the same name I gave to one of my original characters in early years. I reimagined Sophia as a classmate of the main characters in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.

Zoey the Cyber Mink

Zoey the Cyber Mink was originally designed as the mascot for Singularity Viewer, a free and open-source SecondLife viewer. This project seems to have been abandoned, and Zoey was never used in a meaningful way. Since Zoey is meant to be a genius scientist, I reimagined him as the chief engineer of Alice in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.

Azura the Broadcaster Unicorn

Azura Ruisselante the Broadcaster Unicorn is the mascot I created for AzuraCast, a free and open-source web radio station suite. I love Azura’s design, and since my projects needed a musical character, I reimagined her as a classmate of the main characters in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.

Kiki the Cyber Squirrel

Kiki the Cyber Squirrel is the mascot I designed for Krita, a free and open-source digital painting app. Kiki was the starting point for my volunteer work in free and open-source software and is one of my most well-known works, having a significant impact on my life. As my projects needed an artist character who could draw, I reimagined her as a classmate of the main characters in Electric Hearts and Spirit Animals in Disguise.
